Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season;
correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. 2
Timothy 4:2
I placed my sandwich
order and waited. Another server saw me standing alone and asked if I had been
helped. I said yes, she asked how my day was going I said, “Okay.” She said “Just
okay?” I said, “Actually it is going terrific. I just got back from church.” My
sandwiches were placed on the counter, I reached for them and then the young
woman asked, “What did you learn in church today?”
With stomach growling and my wife waiting in the car, I
looked at her as 2 Timothy 4:2 came to mind, “in season and out of season.” Fortunately the scripture from that day’s sermon
quickly came to mind. I shared what I learned, and was able to encourage her to
continue her journey as a new Christian. We said our goodbyes and I left. The
sandwich tasted better knowing that I had put the word first before my empty
stomach. I know without a doubt, God has someone for you to encourage, correct,
or instruct today. Be ready when it is convenient or inconvenient, and remember
the words of Bill Bright; “a successful witness is simply sharing Christ in
the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God.”
